Bits of Ariadne’s forest home have brushed onto her shoulders and become entangled in the webs emerging from her solar plexus.
To make this dress for a real-life Ariadne, industrial plastic netting and dried, dissected, gilded flowers were sewn and glued onto a jersey dress by Ann Demeulemeester. The jersey was extremely thin, stretchy and delicate, so a bodice was sewn into it to support the weight of the webs and flowers.
The dress was intended to be worn once. After the event, the crown and a few flowers were kept as mementos and the dress was thrown away.
